My thighs burn. I forgot how fast Bruce gallops. Still, at least I'm getting some muscle conditioning in. I'm thinking of competing in a Triathlon soon. Only in Monte Carlo, so nothing too glamorous.

How is everyone else? Kit, you better be behaving and practicing!

Triathlons terrify me.

Really? How so?

I don't really see what the payout at the end is.

Hmmm, when you put it like that I can see your point.

I suppose I just like keeping fit and having to work for something. I set target times for each section and try and beat them. Also, coming first is a real buzz.

I bet. And I mean, it's impressive. Don't get me wrong, but it's one of those things that--well, I guess if the point is just to challenge yourself, it works?

A triathlon? You're just not happy unless you're making the rest of us look bad, eh?

...That wasn't serious. It's hard to tell in these, sometimes.

Haha, course I'm not.

Did you really just qualify your joke? Tut tut, mate.

What can I say, these things make me nervous. You can't tell when somebody's being serious!

Although, if it's me you're probably pretty safe in guessing I'm not serious.

I am surprised your team managers allow you to compete outside of the league. They always discouraged us doing anything that might risk injury in the off seasons, at home.

Well... that's the thing. It isn't really a contact sport, a Triathlon. I've been told to be careful, but they know I swim, run and cycle to keep fit anyway. So you weren't allowed to do anything in the off season?

No, it was part of my contract that I wouldn't participate in outside matches or athletics of any kind. We all trained of course, but it was not the same as competition in their eyes, I gather. From what I understand, most of my former teammates had similar contracts.

Is Bruce a horse?

Yes he is. He's my best mate. I have two, but Bruce is the one I've had the longest, we raised him from a foal. He's just a normal horse. I don't ride the winged ones, prefer a broom.

I see. Dancer is my best friend, as well, but she's a Granian. I don't do nearly as well on a broom, or with heights in general, as with her.

They look after you, horses. A broom won't. I'd love to try a Granian, but I like being in control whilst in the air, I don't think I'd be a good passenger.

They do. Dancer won't go very high if I'm not doing very well, and she wouldn't go high at all when I was little. It's definitely more of a partnership. A broom feels rather...flimsy and terrifying after a horse.
